Tailshaft bearings Thordon

Thordon Bearings offers several proven propeller shaft bearing solutions, each offering specific advantages in different water environments and operating conditions. With over 450 water-lubricated bearing installations continuously monitored for wear rates, Thordon Bearings keeps an impeccable reliability track record, proving that their solutions offer the market’s lowest overall lifecycle operating costs. Ship owner benefits :

  • Excellent operational and wear performance
  • Zero pollution risk
  • Reduced shaft seal maintenance costs (no aft seal)
  • Easily maintained
Thordon Compac Thordon COMPAC is a high performance water-lubricated bearing system primarily for vessels operating largely in “blue water”. Specially formulated with a low coefficient of friction to reduce startup friction and eliminate stick-slip, Compac’s unique configuration is designed to form a hydrodynamic film at lower shaft RPMs. Thordon has an extensive reference list of Compac equipped ships from cruise ships, ferries, tankers, bulkers and naval vessels.

Thordon SXL Thordon SXL is designed to offer extensive resistance to abrasive wear and improved wear life in operating conditions that have slightly more abrasives than blue water operation. Thordon SXL offers a low coefficient of friction for reduced break away torque and smoother operation at lower shaft RPMs.

Thordon Composite Specially formulated to provide superior wear life in very abrasive water conditions such as inland river systems, Thordon Composite bearings operating in combination with hard coated nickel-chrome-boron sleeves routinely outwear rubber propreller shaft bearings by a factor of two or more. With over fifteen years experience on hundreds of pushboats operating on America’s muddy Mississippi River system confirm real-life bearing wear at between 0.25mm-0.38mm per year.
